After violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, rookie WR Justin Blackmon was suspended by the Jacksonville Jaguars indefinitely without pay. The first round draft pick has had quite the season so far. He was suspended four games for testing positive for marijuana and even caught a DUI charge in 2012 just before training camp. Now he’s headed to rehab, hopefully to get his mind together so that he can possibly re-enter the NFL. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement prior to the start of next season.
Blackmon may be in luck. The NFL is trying to push more for rehabilitation rather than discipline. 49ers Aldon Smith was recently released from an alcohol treatment center. If all goes well and Blackmon can stay out of trouble, he may likely rejoin the league.
