As the NFL kicked off Sunday’s Week 4 matchups with thrilling upsets and bounce-back games, tensions flared in Los Angeles as family drama boiled over onto the field.
Just moments after the LA Rams secured the victory over the New York Giants, 17-9, Rams’ cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Giants wide receiver Golden Tate came to blows.
The incident quickly escalated into a full-blown brawl between the two teams, as other players, coaches, and staff members rushed to break it up. But, if that weren’t enough, Ramsey reportedly waited outside the Giants’ locker room for Tate, even after the on-field scuffle. However, there was no round two, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported.
While the team’s coaches were unable to figure out where the tension came from, with Rams coach Sean McVay revealing he was unclear what happened and Giants coach Joe Judge confirming he was uncertain of the details, the drama apparently stemmed from an off-season break up between Ramsey and the mother of his children.
Ramsey has two children with Tate’s little sister, Breanna Tate. However, Ramsey broke it off this past summer, by sharing a photo of himself with his new girlfriend, Monica Giavanna. Breanna was pregnant with their second child at the time.
As news spread of the messy situation, Tate took to Twitter to reveal his plans to confront the father of his sister’s children. “If I was Golden Tate, I would have words with this young fella,” a Twitter user wrote, to which Tate responded, “He know he gonna have to see me.”
Later that day, Ramsey took to social media himself, saying, “We live in a society where ignorant people feel that they are owed an explanation of what goes on in our day-to-day lives….and why we make the decision we make…we don’t have to answer to anyone but the man above. Shit is beyond overrated.”
