The suspect in the tragic murder of iconic DJ Jam Master Jay is reportedly contemplating a plea deal, hinting at potential developments in the long-standing case.
The Associated Press has shared that prosecutors might propose a plea deal to Jay Bryant, the third suspect in the murder case, though specifics of the deal remain uncertain. Both legal parties are expected to submit a status report by August 5th. Should they not reach an agreement, the trial is poised to commence in January 2025.
For those catching up, Jay Bryant was charged last year, becoming the third person implicated in the case. Earlier, in February, the trial of two other defendants, Karl Jordan, Jr., and Ronald Washington, concluded in New York, resulting in their conviction on all charges.
The prosecution asserts that the three individuals invaded Jam Master Jay’s studio, with Jordan firing two fatal shots, one of which was a direct shot to the head, resulting in Jam Master Jay’s death. Evidence presented included Bryant being spotted entering the building moments before the incident and leaving a piece of clothing at the scene, which tested positive for his DNA.
After the conviction of Jordan and Washington, Jam Master Jay’s sons, Maurice and TJ Mizell, publicly addressed rumors linking their father’s murder to drug trafficking. Appearing on CBS News’ “After The Verdict,” the brothers firmly dismissed the notion that the legendary member of Run-DMC was involved in cocaine distribution.
“We strongly believe that is false,” they stated, emphasizing that their father’s financial involvement didn’t imply drug sales. They fondly remembered Jam Master Jay’s generosity, particularly his habit of gifting cars during Christmas, underscoring the love and support within their family, which belied any allegations of drug involvement.
