A Jamaican police officer is facing charges after smuggling cocaine into the U.S. in her vagina and her stomach.
Shelian Cherine Allen, 42, was charged with importation of 500 grams or more of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, according to NBC Miami.
Allen, a Jamaican citizen, was detained on Feb. 3 while trying to get through customs at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport after flying in from Montego Bay.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, packages of cocaine were discovered inside her vagina and in her bra.
In addition, she had 90 pellets inside her stomach that she had swallowed. Allen was taken to an area hospital so the pellets could be removed.
The release said Allen carried about 1,350 grams of cocaine inside her body when she entered the country.
Allen worked as a law enforcement officer for the Jamaica Constabulary Force for the past 18 years.
If convicted, Allen faces up to 40 years in prison on each count.
