There’s always been something applaudable about athletes who can not only perform well in their respective sport, but can also make great business moves. With that being said, possible #1 NFL draftee Jameis Winston has just made a business move for himself by filing for a trademark of the term “Famous Jameis.”
The nickname is one that Jameis Winston says he has been called since a young age as a Little League baseball player. The tag however became more renowned to the rest of the nation during Winston and Florida State’s dominance over the course of the 2013 season in which the Seminoles won a National Championship.
Athletes filing for legal rights over terms and phrases connected to them is definitely not unheard of. Jonny Manziel’s “Johnny Football”, Darrelle Revis’ “Revis Island”, and chad Ochocinco’s “Kiss the Baby” are all among the list. And even most recently the most talkative guy in the NFL Marshawn Lynch filed for trademark rights of his infamous “I’m just here so I won’t get fined” phrase.
According to his agent Russ Spielmen of the Legacy agency, Winston’s entire focus right now is on football. Spielmen went on to say that the business endeavor is solely for future usage. One thing is for sure, Winston definitely has the ability to genuinely win people over with his down south attitude and over the top personality, so if he is able to perform up to par in the NFL “Famous Jameis” will likely be cashing in in the future.
