Jamie Foxx To Star In New Netflix Series “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!”; Daughter Corinne Foxx Will Executive Produce

Jamie Foxx will be returning to the TV sitcom life in a new Netflix series called “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!”

The multi-talented artist is sprinkling us with a little “The Jamie Foxx Show” realness as he’s set to star in the new comedy series for the streaming giant. According to Entertainment Weekly, the series will be based on Foxx’s relationship with his oldest daughter Corinne Foxx, who will also executive produce the project.

Yahoo! News reports that the show will feature various characters, somewhat like the iconic comedy sketch show “In Living Color.” “We didn’t want him to play himself, and what’s more embarrassing than your dad doing makeup all the time?” said Corinne. “Brian really wants to understand [Sasha] so badly and be there for her — and he maybe goes to extreme lengths to do so.”

Foxx will be working with his former “In Living Color” castmate David Alan Grier on the show. Grier will portray a character who is loosely based on Foxx’s real-life step-father. “It really was surreal,” said Grier.

“Jamie told me he wanted someone there that he knew he could pass the baton to,” said Grier. “My main concern was, ‘Is Jamie really going to be in the show?’ I didn’t want to do a show where your famous friend is like, ‘Yeah, man, I’m going to be in it,’ but it’s like the Brad Pitt Comedy Hour, and he introduces the first act and then comes back at the end of the season. But Jamie was there every minute, every day, encouraging me to do more and run with it.” The actor said the show is like an “old-school laughter” show with a “throwback vibe.”

Corinne says the show will be something that we all can relate to. “When you’re in the moment as a teenager and going through this stuff, it’s not funny, and you’re actually upset,” she told the outlet. “But it’s so fulfilling to see how these stories have grown into something that my dad and I can cherish and love. This is our story, and it’s just like, ‘Wow, at least we went through all that for something!’

The show will premiere on Netflix on April 14th.
