Jamie Foxx has signed on to release an adaption of Dominique Fishback’s one-woman play, “Subverted.”
“Subverted” follows the story of Fishback’s character, an 18-year-old girl named Eden. The teenager lives in the inner city, and the tale depicts “the destruction of Black identity” as Eden sees it. Fishback portrayed over 20 characters in the play.

While there is no official release date for the project or how it will be structured, Foxx and Fishback have worked together before on the Netflix film “Project Power.” During an August interview with Variety, the actress expressed how it felt to work with the “Just Mercy” star:
“To have somebody who has won an Academy Award speak so highly about you, there’s no words to describe it, especially when it’s a sci-fi action movie, where people aren’t really talking about the grounding of the actor,” she stated.
Fishback wrote and performed “Subverted” as her honors thesis at Pace University. Since then, the play has been performed with the MCC Theater Youth Company, Wild Project Theater Poetic License Festival, Lucille Lortel with Abingdon Theatre’s Ghostlight Reading Series, and Off-Broadway at Culture Project’s Women Center Stage Festival at the Lynn Redgrave Theater.
