After 11 years off-air, “Zoey 101” could be returning to Nickelodeon with some big changes.
The network has been rolling out reboots of other popular Nickelodeon classics like “Blues Clues” and “All That” this year, and now execs are allegedly in talks with the former star of the show, Jamie Lynn Spears to “reprise her role” as Zoey, in a reboot, TMZ reports.
While a deal has not been finalized, sources say that a reboot of the teen sitcom could feature a storyline much different from the gang’s days on the campus of Pacific Coast Academy. Possibly, an older “Zoey,” who is all grown up with children and living in Southern California ten years later.
If it’s given the green light, changes to the show mirror the personal life of the 28-year-old actress, who is also a mother of two.
After four seasons on Nickelodeon, the series ended in 2008. At that time, fans speculated that a teenage Spears was fired from the show because she was pregnant, but she set the record straight earlier this year with a post on Instagram, explaining that her contract with Nickelodeon was already finished.
Since then, Jamie Lynn, who is the younger sister of pop icon Britney Spears, has taken her talents to the music industry as a singer/songwriter. As for acting, she has most recently secured a role on the upcoming Netflix series “Sweet Magnolias.”
