Derrick Rose and his rape accuser have finally had their first day in court and things were interesting. According to the Associated Press, the woman is suing Rose for $21.5 million and says she was intoxicated and felt like she had been drugged after a visit to Rose’s mansion in Beverly Hills in August 2013. She says after leaving Rose’s mansion, Rose and his friends came to her home and raped her as she slipped in and out of consciousness.
On Thursday Rose’s accuser took the stand in front of a six woman, two man jury. Doe says she felt like she had been drugged after having drinks with Rose. “I’ve never felt like that before,” the 30-year-old said. “I just felt I was less in control, more goofy.” She continued, “I went to my room & I just tipped over onto my bed. I just felt sick. I just wanted to lay down, the room was spinning.”
The woman says she only recollects “flashes” of the actual rape. “I recall waking up and seeing them in my room,” she said of the three men. In one of her flashes, she said, Rose was at the edge of her bed undressed and pulling her toward him. She was trying to roll off the bed. “I just felt like I wanted to throw up,” she said. When she woke up the next morning she says her black dress was around her neck, she had lubricant on her legs and saw a used condom on her bedroom floor.
Rose’s attorney’s then brought her credibility in question, saying that she sent text messages to Rose hours prior to the alleged rape and was using complete sentences and punctation. According to Jane Doe, she did not recall sending any text messages.
According to the woman, she chose not to go forward to the police because she did not want to be responsible for anyone going to jail and didn’t want to face retaliation. She says that she didn’t want to sue but was convinced by friends. Doe did end up filing criminal charges, after filing her civil lawsuit, 2 years after the alleged incident took place.
Following the incident, Jane Doe says she ended up losing her job. “I lost my job…I just couldn’t focus,” she said. “I was like very anxious.”
D. Rose arrived more than 90 min after start of trial due to basketball related business. Though it’s not required he be present for a civil trial, with something like this, it’s highly recommended that he shows up to show that he takes the allegations.
