Janelle Monae Joins Cast of Harriet Tubman Biopic

In her return to the silver screen, Janelle Monáe is joining forces with Cynthia Erivo, Vanessa Bell Calloway and more to memorialize the life and legacy of #HarrietTubman in a new biopic, “Harriet.” 

According to Variety, Erivo will play the iconic abolitionist, alongside a star-studded cast, including Leslie Odom Jr. Clarke Peters and Zackary Momoh.

Directed by Kasi Lemmons, who also wrote the script with Gregory Allen Howard, the film will focus on Tubman’s escape from slavery via the Underground Railroad, as well as her missions to free hundreds of slaves.

Filming is set to begin next month in Atlanta.
