Janelle Monae has been making headlines about her boobs being on full display, but the singer and actress isn’t sure what all the fuss is about.
Monae sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone, where she addressed the controversy. The incident in particular that sent social media into a tailspin was a recent performance where the “Make Me Feel” vocalist flashed her breasts. The crowd cheered with approval, though some on the internet were not pleased. Nevertheless, the 37-year-old is unphased by the chatter. Instead, Monae is embracing her body as she enters a new era of liberation.
“I’m much happier when my titties are out, and I can run around free,” she told the publication.
While the multi-talented star has blessed the screen in films such as “Glass Onion,” “Harriet,” and “Moonlight,” it is her music that has revealed the most about her. Fans have watched as Monae peeled back layers of herself, announcing in 2018 that she was pansexual, which is defined as being sexually or romantically attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender. In 2022, she told her supporters that she was nonbinary, someone who does not conform to traditional gender beliefs. She prefers the pronouns “she/her,” “they/them,” or “free-ass motherf****r,” as she calls herself.
“Most people don’t understand what’s going on in my brain. Community has been so helpful to me,” she said of the support she’s garnering ahead of her new album, “The Age of Pleasure,” which is an ode to her freedom and self-love.
“It’s not about an album anymore. I’ve changed my whole f*****g lifestyle,” the beauty added.
