Megastar Janet Jackson has been adored and swooned over for decades! So it comes as quite a shock to hear that at one time she didn’t find herself attractive, despite how the world viewed her beauty. She recently sat down with InStyle and discussed her physical insecurities and the emotional angst she’s endured in the more recent months.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Janet says it wasn’t until she was in her 30’s that she began to feel sexy. She mentioned that she hadn’t always loved the skin she was in and that her body was her biggest insecurity. “A lot of it has to do with experience, getting older. Understanding, realizing that there isn’t just one thing that is considered beautiful. Beautiful comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. I had to find something in my body that I loved, and that was difficult for me to do.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She went further into detail, pinpointing what part of her body she first started to fall in love with.
“At first, I couldn’t find anything. I would look in the mirror and start crying. I didn’t like that I was not attractive. I didn’t like anything about me. But I wound up falling in love with the small of my back. And then from there I found more things.”
But get this! Janet also said that she never liked her smile! “And then finally realizing my smile isn’t that bad after all. I thought I looked like the Joker because it was so big,” she told InStyle. Who would’ve ever known!?
In regards to what makes other women beautiful, Jackson explains it’s “lots of different things,” sharing: “It’s vulnerability. It’s power. It’s confidence. It’s happiness. It’s seeing the goodness in the soul. It’s spirituality. It’s being selfless and what you do for others before doing for yourself.”
Ms. Jackson also touched on the difficulty she’s been facing since the passing of her father, Joe Jackson, stating it was “very tough”. She also mentioned her son, Eissa and how she plans to instill in him “the foundation of being grounded and also of a higher power”, keeping her father’s legacy alive.
