Janet Jackson opened up in a rare interview about her hopes for aging and being comfortable in her own skin.
The 55-year-old music icon discussed growing older with Allure, admitting that she, like everyone else, wishes to stay young forever but that aging is “inevitable.” Though she never revealed the cosmetic procedures that she’s had over the years, the “Rhythm Nation” star says that she wishes to age “gracefully” but has not completely ruled out the occasional nip and tuck. However, Jackson assured Allure that she would not go overboard.
“I don’t know when my day is coming, but at some point, it’s going to come, and I can choose which path I want to take. I do hope I age gracefully,” she explained before adding, “It’s either a little bit of zhuzh or gracefully.”
Prior to Jackson’s critically acclaimed “Janet” album in 1993, the singer dressed modestly, mostly seen in pants and suits. However, the sensuality of that album produced a side of Jackson that put her more in touch with her femininity and sexuality. She says that while it was “very difficult” to embrace her body, she is happy she did, as it was a way of accepting herself.
During the sit-down, Jackson also applauded musicians such as Cardi B and Lizzo for accepting their bodies and sharing body-positive messages in their music.
