A man claiming to be Janet Jackson’s former manager says he was let go by the music icon and her brother, Randy Jackson, after making unapproved comments regarding Vice President Kamala Harris. The controversy erupted after an article in The Guardian quoted the 58-year-old singer making claims about Harris’s ethnicity, leading to a whirlwind of confusion and backlash.
In an email to the Daily Beast, Mo Elmasri, who says he managed Jackson, stated, “Janet Jackson fired me due to disagreements between me, her, and Randy, after her meeting with The Guardian and her unbalanced statements.” He refused to provide further details, citing an overwhelming volume of calls and offering only a brief message of support for the Vice President: “All support to Kamala Harris.”
The situation got weird when Jackson’s representatives clarified that a supposed apology from Elmasri, issued on the singer’s behalf, was not authorized by Janet Jackson at all. The confusion intensified after the Guardian interview went viral, with Jackson allegedly questioning Harris’s Black identity by claiming she had heard Harris was “Indian” and that her father was “white.”
“I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white,” Jackson reportedly said, echoing misinformation and conspiracy theories that have been circulating since Harris became a target of political opponents. The comments aligned with false narratives previously pushed by former President Donald Trump and other critics who have tried to undermine Harris’s identity.
The fallout from the Guardian interview quickly spilled over into social media, where fans and critics alike began to scrutinize Randy Jackson’s online presence. They discovered that his social media accounts were filled with posts promoting QAnon conspiracy theories and MAGA talking points, leading many to question his influence on Janet and her recent controversial statements.
In response to the revelations, fans took to social media commenting ‘Free Janet Jackson’, suggesting that the singer might be under undue influence from her brother and possibly being used as a mouthpiece for his controversial views. Many of Janet’s supporters called for her to distance herself from the conspiracy theories and to take control of her own narrative.
