Janice Turner, the 62-year-old mother of singer Sean Kingston, is asking a federal judge for mercy as she prepares for sentencing in a wire fraud case that could lock her up for decades. In a recent court filing obtained by AllHipHop, Turner requested a sentence of no more than 30 months, even though she faces up to 20 years for each of five federal charges.
Turner was convicted back in March 2025 for her role in a scheme that prosecutors say used fake financial documents and her son’s celebrity status to obtain over $1 million in luxury goods, including cars, jewelry, and electronics. Authorities described her as the “fixer” and “nerve center” of the operation, which involved tricking vendors into delivering merchandise without actual payment.
Despite being found guilty, Turner’s legal team says she never personally benefited from the scam.
“A sentence of thirty (30) months or less will serve the purposes of sentencing by satisfying the need for deterrence,” her attorneys wrote. They cited her age, declining health, and lack of a criminal past as reasons to show leniency.
Adding to the emotional toll, Turner is expected to be deported to Jamaica after her prison time, which her lawyers say would mean “permanent separation from her family.” They also asked that she serve her sentence near Miami so her family can visit. Turner is scheduled to be sentenced on July 23rd, 2025.
