According to an explosive report by Business Insider, Jared Kushner helped create a shell company that secretly paid Trump family members.
Kushner, married to Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, is a senior adviser to the president. He helped to launch the company in 2018. The company, called Media Consultants Corporation and American Made Media Consultants LLC, was incorporated in Deleware.
The outlet reports that the head of the company is listed as Lara Trump, the wife of the president’s son, Eric. A nephew of Vice President Mike Pence is named as the vice president of the company.
The shell company’s creation was allegedly for laundering campaign funds while keeping the identities of those receiving the funds from the public. It allowed the campaign to avoid federally mandated disclosures concerning where the large amounts of money were being spent. The shell allegedly spent half of the campaign’s enormous $1.26 billion budget.
Campaign staffers didn’t fully understand how the company functioned, and the Trump campaign leaders launched an internal audit on it. The results of the internal audit were never publicly revealed, Business Insider reported.
It was previously reported that Lara Trump was being paid $15,000 a month, totaling a staggering $180,000, in secret payments. But, Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told Business Insider that Lara Trump and Mike Pence’s nephew, John Pence, were not paid for their work on the company board. According to Murtaugh, they left last year to “focus on campaign activities.”
“This story is false. No Trump family members were paid by AMMC,” Murtaugh tweeted Friday when the Business Insider article ran.
