Rep. Jasmine Crockett brought the heat during a House Oversight hearing as she called out the authors of Project 2025, many of whom were part of former President Trump’s cabinet. The Texas congresswoman didn’t hold back, exposing what she described as the “waste, fraud, and abuse” of taxpayer dollars on a hearing prompted by hurt feelings over a debate.
“Next time, tell your big boy to show up and be ready to handle the woman in the room,” Crockett said, referring to former President Trump, in a bold statement about the motivations behind the hearing. She made it clear that this wasn’t about policy but rather about someone’s ego being bruised.
Addressing the authors of Project 2025, Crockett pointed out how the plan tries to distance itself from Trump while still being linked to him. “It’s interesting that everyone’s doubling down on the idea that this is their project, but they’re also quick to say it’s not ‘our homeboy’s’ thing, because they know it doesn’t poll well with the American people,” she remarked. When asked if Trump’s name was mentioned in the document, one of the authors admitted it was referenced multiple times. Crockett then revealed the exact number: “If I told you his name is mentioned approximately 312 times, would you have any reason to dispute that?” The silence that followed spoke volumes.
The congresswoman also addressed the inflation narrative often pushed by the right, making it clear that the recent economic challenges were not limited to the U.S. “The inflation we just struggled through was global,” Crockett said, highlighting how the pandemic had worldwide impacts. She then shut down the suggestion that the Biden administration was solely responsible, noting, “The United States actually fared better than the rest of the world.”
Crockett didn’t stop there. She tackled issues related to rural broadband and the alleged misuse of federal dollars. When an attempt was made to criticize the rollout under the Infrastructure Act, she quickly shut it down. “Are you saying no dollars have been spent?” she asked pointedly. Despite the witness’s attempt to shift the narrative, Crockett kept the focus on facts, clarifying that money had indeed been allocated and was already being used to expand high-speed internet in rural areas, including Texas.
But it was her passionate defense of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) that truly stood out. After the witness repeatedly blamed DEI for the supposed failures in the broadband rollout, Crockett pointed out that historical underfunding and cost miscalculations by companies—not DEI—were to blame. “This election is the best example of why y’all are so afraid of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” she said. “Because then you can’t have a simple-minded, underqualified white man somehow end up ascending. Instead, you’ve got to pay attention to the qualified Black woman on the other side.”
Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s performance at the hearing was a masterclass in holding power to account, cutting through misinformation, and defending the principles of equity and fairness. She made it clear that she’s not here for performative politics but for real solutions that work for all Americans.
