Wealthy socialite Jasmine Hartin has been arrested for the murder of a prominent police officer in Belize after a night of drinking together.
On Tuesday, Hartin, the daughter-in-law of British billionaire Lord Michael Ashcroft, was transferred to the Belize Central Prison after being formally charged with manslaughter by negligence for accidentally shooting San Pedro Superintendent Henry Jemmott to death.
Since Friday, Hartin was held at the San Pedro police station since she first questioned. On Monday, the 32-year-old was denied bail at her arraignment, with the local magistrate deeming her to be a flight risk.
The woman claims that she shot Jemmott as she was giving him a massage while they were drinking together. Hartin claims that his service weapon, a Glock 17, accidentally went off as she handed it to him.
Jemmott reportedly told a friend that he was going on a date with a woman but would not state her name shortly before being killed. His body was found floating in the water on May 28th with a single gunshot wound to the head.
