Nearly three months after “The Chi” star Jason Mitchell was accused of misconduct and fired from his role on the Showtime show, the actor is officially speaking his piece.
In a statement shared to Instagram, Mitchell addressed the allegations and his subsequent dismissal, saying, “I think it’s time to make a statement.”
“To everyone commenting without any knowledge of what’s going please stop… and to all my supporters I appreciate you, and I’m sorry I will no longer be in “The Chi” but don’t believe what you read in the media,” Mitchell said, without going into detail about the circumstances.
Mitchell’s statement comes after Deadline reported the character’s fate in the wake of his firing, via a statement by the network’s President of Entertainment.
“There is a lot of great life in ‘The Chi,’ and there’s also death in ‘The Chi, and that’s how we’ll be dealing with it,” Gary Levine said, before adding an update about the forthcoming third season.
“I think it will be our best ever,” Levine said. “The stories remain incredibly vibrant.”
