Jay-Z is not letting up on Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, now accusing him of failing to meet with his accuser before accepting her lawsuit.
The Roc Nation founder’s legal team has submitted a new filing, claiming Buzbee never met with the woman prior to her filing a lawsuit accusing the artist of rape. On Wednesday, Jay’s team described Buzbee as an unfit attorney, accusing him of choosing to “gloss” over the “factual inconsistencies” in the woman’s lawsuit. They emphasized that Buzbee had not even met with the woman before signing his name on the complaint and before the NBC News interview in December.
“Initially, he deflected, saying Plaintiff’s ‘case was referred to [his] firm by another, who vetted it prior to sending it’ to him, and that his firm would ‘continue to vet her claims and collect corroborating data,'” the filing reads. “Now, he concedes that he did not even meet with Plaintiff before signing his name to the complaint, and fails to identify any evidence that corroborates anything his client alleged.”
Hov’s legal team added, “Mr. Carter seeks only to hold Mr. Buzbee to the ethical standards that constrain any responsible attorney who would solemnly sign his name to allegations in court.”
In response, Buzbee called the lawsuit “weak and desperate” and claimed he and four other lawyers had, in fact, interviewed the accuser. The filing follows the 55-year-old’s call for sanctions against Buzbee’s alleged shady practices, stating the lawsuit should be dismissed. Jay has denied the allegations, calling Buzbee a “fraud” and an “ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.”
