Jay-Z Celebrates 25th Anniversary Of “Reasonable Doubt” By Selling First NFT

Jay-Z is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his now-classic debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” by minting and selling it as his first non-fungible token.

According to Rolling Stone, the billionaire rapper commissioned artist Derrick Adams to create a one-of-a-kind animated digital piece inspired by the Reasonable Doubt album cover. The new piece is titled “Heir to the Throne,” which was what the album was originally supposed to be called.

The “Heir to the Throne NFT” is set to be auctioned off online via Sotheby’s. Bidding for the piece starts at $1,000, and the auction will run from today, June 25th, to July 2nd at 10 a.m. ET. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Shawn Carter Foundation.

Last week, Roc-a-fella sued Damon Dash to stop him from selling his own NFT version of “Reasonable Doubt,” claiming it was a violation, as the classic album is a piece of hip hop history that the company owns and that Dash didn’t have the right to sell.
