Jay-Z has filed a lawsuit against Bacardi to determine precisely how much money his cognac label is making.
TMZ reported that Jay-Z’s Liquor company, SC Liquor, is requesting financial transparency from Bacardi over D’Usse, with which he and Barcardi are 50/50 partners in.
Since 2011, Jay and Bacardi have shared ownership of D’Usse. The lawsuit, however, makes it clear that something isn’t right with the partnership.
As outlined in the court documents, SC Liquour is requesting access to all records, warehouse locations storing D’Usse barrels, bottles, and accessories, as well as information about Bacardi’s physical inventory and its process.
So far, the reasoning behind the request is unknown, but SC Liquor claims that it must “monitor the conduct of [Bacardi’s] business to protect SC’s rights as” a partner in the company.
