Jay-Z’s Cannabis Brand Hit With A Lawsuit For Illegal Marijuana Smuggling And Discriminatory Gender Practices

Jay-Z’s cannabis brand is facing a lawsuit for illegally transporting products across the country and practicing gender discrimination.

According to SFGate.com, the brand Monogram is facing allegations of transporting its products illegally from California to New York. Despite being legal in both states, cannabis remains a federally controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act, making transportation across state lines illegal.

In addition, Monogram is also being accused of gender discrimination by former vice president at The Parent Company (TPCO), the parent company to Monogram. Cathi Clay filed a complaint last month claiming TPCO executives treated her poorly because of her gender. She also added that TPCO retaliated against her for reporting financial irregularities and violations of state cannabis regulations.

Nevertheless, TPCO has since denied the allegations and plans to “strongly defends itself” against the claims.

“The company does not comment on active litigation and plans to defend itself strongly against the false accusations,” a TPCO spokesperson said.

Jay-Z has been dealing with various legal disputes in 2023. Last month, he was able to reach a settlement with Bacardi concerning his D’USSE brand. The two companies were able to reconcile their partnership, with Bacardi acquiring a controlling stake in the brand.

“Growing D’USSÉ over the past decade from an idea to one of the fastest-selling spirits in history has been a blessing,” he said. “The next phase of this journey will further cement D’USSÉ’s legacy as one of the world’s most respected brands. I am excited to renew this partnership with Bacardi.”
