Jazmine Sullivan is opening up about suffering a painful miscarriage.
The Grammy-winning singer got candid in a heartfelt Instagram Story on Thursday, just one day after turning 38. She opened up about her grief and how difficult life has been recently.
“Whew.. thank yall for ur birthday wishes,” she wrote. “Leading up to my birthday has been incredibly hard as I’ve been thinking abt my mother and missing her more than words can say.”
Sullivan’s mother, Pamela, passed away in July 2023 after a battle with breast cancer. But this year’s grief came with another layer of heartbreak, having lost her baby.
“I would have been holding my 2-month-old son that I never got to meet,” she shared. “So needless to say I’ve been down bad.”
Despite the pain, Sullivan found a small moment of comfort.
“I’m grateful for the massage I received today that helped to release some of the deep pain I’ve been holding in for a while,” she added.
She ended the message by thanking her supporters.
“I’m also grateful that so many of you think of me and take the time to write! It’s all so beautiful!! Please continue to pray for me as I heal from life’s a** whooping.”
Sullivan has remained transparent with fans about her grief journey. After her 37th birthday last year, she admitted, “I tried so hard to keep busy for my birthday to distract myself, but I don’t think it works like that.”
“I cried all month,” she said. “I’ll cry for the rest of my life. But I’ll also smile, laugh, and dance in between the tears! So thank God for that!”
