JD Vance didn’t hold back in defending Donald Trump during an interview this week, pushing back against Elon Musk’s recent online attacks that reignited tensions between the two powerful figures.

The drama kicked off after Musk slammed Trump’s signature legislative proposal, the so-called “big, beautiful bill,” calling it a “disgusting abomination” over concerns about deficit spending and lack of cuts. Trump fired back, warning he might pull federal contracts from Musk’s companies. Musk escalated further by tying Trump to Jeffrey Epstein, before deleting the post.
Vance, speaking on the “This Past Weekend” podcast with Theo Von, called Musk’s comments “a huge mistake.”
“I think it’s a huge mistake for him to go after the president like that,” Vance said. “If he and the president are in some blood feud…it’s going to be bad for the country, but I don’t think it’s going to be good for Elon either.”
Vance dismissed the Epstein allegations, saying, “Donald Trump didn’t do anything wrong with Jeffrey Epstein. That’s totally BS.”
Despite the friction, Vance praised Musk’s leadership in the Department of Government Efficiency, while reaffirming his allegiance to Trump. “I’m always going to be loyal to the President,” he said, though he hopes Musk “comes back into the fold.”
Vance added that Musk’s political turn has brought heat to his companies, noting, “They’re literally, like, fire bombing some of his cars,” and said the DOJ is investigating potential terrorism.
“It’s a good bill, it’s not a perfect bill,” he said of the legislation.
