Jekai Reid-John, who was arrested back in 2021, is officially a free man after a weeks-long courtroom battle in Middlesex County, New Jersey, that ended in total acquittal. He was facing years behind bars for the brutal murder of an executive in New Jersey, which made headlines due to money allegedly being the motivating factor.
A jury handed down a not guilty verdict on every major charge, including felony murder, armed robbery, burglary, multiple weapons offenses, and witness tampering.
The case, which had been closely followed due to the gravity of the charges, collapsed under the weight of the prosecution’s burden of proof. The jury’s decision came down on Friday, September 26th, 2025, sending a loud and clear message: the State did not prove its case.
Reid-John had been accused of being the intruder who killed 54-year-old Sree Ranga Aravapalli, who was murdered shortly after winning a $10,000 prize at the Parx Casino in Pennsylvania. But as the trial progressed, the defense successfully cast enough doubt to dismantle the prosecution’s narrative.
“This trial showed the importance of holding the State to its burden of proof,” said Durann A. Neil, Reid-John’s attorney. “The jury carefully considered the evidence and reached the only verdict consistent with the facts and the law.”
With the jury siding with the defense on all fronts, Reid-John walks away completely cleared, putting an end to a high-profile legal battle that could have led to life-altering consequences.
