Jenifer Lewis opened up about her relationship with her late friend Whitney Houston on the latest episode of TV One’s Uncensored.
The actress fondly remembered watching Whitney singing gospel on the set of The Preachers Wife:
“Hearing her sing the genre of music she had been raised with. Gospel!” she remembered with fondness. “The trills in her voice! The riffs! The range! The beauty! The soul! Her beauty. It was a sight to see.”
Lewis says that Whitney’s acting skills did not come as easily to her as singing and “she was always a little nervous about her acting skills, but she was good.”
She also spoke on an experience she had while filming when Whitney was a no-show on set after she had already prepared for the scene.
“Where’s Whitney? They said, ‘she’s not here.’ I said, ‘Give me the phone,’ and I called her. I said, ‘Hey! Little girl! Why didn’t you call? They have to now wash my hair in ten-below-zero to fix it for another scene that you’re not in!’”
It turned out that due to a “record-breaking blizzard,” Whitney was snowed in and couldn’t get out of the garage. The singer and actress apologized profusely to Lewis, promising to give them a heads up sooner if it happened again.
Towards the end of the clip, Lewis choked back tears attempting to talk about Whitney’s passing. She is clearly at a loss of words trying to discuss the loss of her friend.
