Earlier this week, actress Jenifer Lewis took to Facebook to issue a statement about the lawsuit she filed against her ex-boyfriend, Tony Wilson, after she found out he was a convicted felon and con-artist.
In September 2015, hours before her mother passed away, Lewis says that she found out the man she wanted to spend her life with was a career con-artist who, in 2010, had been sentenced to four years in federal prison for conning investors out of $4 million. Lewis says that unbeknownst to her, Wilson, who was the manager at the LA Fitness Club she frequented, was out on parole.
According to Lewis, upon finding out about Wilson, she did some investigating of her own. “By searching online, I learned that Wilson, as Brice Carrington, had falsely claimed to be a three-time “Oscar winner” in sound design and had paid a jeweler to create fake Academy Award Oscar statues to lure unsuspecting investors for his sound effects business. By searching online, I learned that Tony Wilson’s current alias—Dr. Antonio M. Wilson, an Oxford-educated Ph.D. in Theology who lectures at UCLA, and who is a self-published author of religious books and a former Navy SEAL—was concocted while Wilson was incarcerated in federal prison.”
By the time Lewis found out that her mate was a scammer, it was too late. She had already given him money. “Unfortunately, I learned the truth about Tony Wilson only after he conned me into investing more than $50,000 into the exact same sound effects business for which he had plead guilty, for which he had served time, and for which he was currently on parole.”
“It was like my soul was shattered,” said Lewis. “Since then, I have had to pick myself up, put myself back into therapy and take good care of myself. I am of course still mourning my mother and doing my best to trust again.”
Jenifer Lewis is also suing LA Fitness, who she says is protecting Wilson. According to Lewis, upon finding out her boyfriend was a scammer, she notified his employer via email. LA Fitness then provided Wilson with that email. In turn, Wilson used to allege that Jenifer had “wrongfully attempted” to have him fired from his job. Tony Wilson is still employed at LA Fitness and according to Lewis, They have continued to place him in a position to prey on LA Fitness’ female members.
