Awarding-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson will produce and star in an upcoming Christmas musical comedy.
The New Line feature, which will be produced by Jonathan Glickman through his Glickmania imprint, will reportedly include classic Christmas tunes and several original tracks. The film will be based around a singer who finds herself down on her luck. However, her life will take a turn when she is mistakenly identified as the writer of the next big Christmas hit.
Molly Mankiewicz will executive produce while Ira Madison III is penning the screenplay.
While details on a release date are scarce, 39-year-old Hudson is working on another major project, portraying the role of soul legend Aretha Franklin, who handpicked the Oscar winner to star in her biopic before her death in 2018 from pancreatic cancer. Jennifer Hudson executive produced the film, titled “Respect” after Franklin’s 1967 hit single. That film is set to be released by MGM in August 2021.
