Jermaine Dupri recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of collaborating with Chris Brown on a Michael Jackson-level album during an appearance on the “Joe Budden Podcast.”
Dupri explained the ambitious potential of such a project.
“I might f**k around and go to the studio with CB and make ‘Thriller,’” Dupri said. He also acknowledged that such a collaboration could create tension. “Usher would hate me for the rest of my life.”
The producer did not specify exactly why Usher might be upset, but it is widely assumed that it relates to Dupri’s significant role in creating Usher’s own blockbuster album, 2004’s 14-times platinum “Confessions.”
Despite this, Dupri emphasized his enthusiasm for working with Chris Brown again.
“I would love to work with Chris Brown. I have worked with Chris Brown before,” he said. “You ain’t gotta tell me what’s gonna happen. I know what’s gonna happen.”
The discussion also touched on the ongoing debate over who is closer to Michael Jackson in terms of talent and stage presence: Chris Brown or Usher.
Neither Brown nor Usher has responded to JD’s comments. However, his words illustrate his willingness to explore ambitious creative projects while acknowledging a potential complex dynamic between two of R&B’s leading figures.
The fact that Jermaine Dupri believes that if he worked with Chris Brown that it would surpass Confessions by making a thriller-like album goes to show that CB is levels above Usher pic.twitter.com/dcytyrfCob
