Things got real on Wednesday’s episode of The Breakfast Club when Jess Hilarious confronted Charlemagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Loren LoRosa live on air, calling them out over changes that went down during her maternity leave.
Jess, known for her bold humor and no-nonsense attitude, took to social media on Tuesday to air her grievances, and what followed was a raw exchange on the radio.
As you know, Jess opened up about feeling blindsided by changes at the station after returning from maternity leave. She had arranged for someone to fill in during her absence, but when she came back, it seemed like her spot was no longer entirely hers. LoRosa, who had stepped in temporarily, remained on the show longer than expected. While Jess didn’t mind her staying, she felt that LoRosa’s involvement in Jess With the Mess was overstepping.
“We had a whole plan … how I pick her to fill in for me, right? I come back, she ain’t never leave,” Jess said. “Aight, cool that she [doesn’t] leave. But she’s on only during my segment. If she was meant to be a full-time host, move her in another way. Why she gotta be moved in on — ‘cause nobody had a problem with ‘Jess With the Mess’ until she started reading right, until she started reporting.”
She added, “I wasn’t hired as a reporter, I was hired as ‘Jess With the Mess.’”
For Jess, the issue seemed to stem from the fact that LoRosa, a former TMZ senior news reporter, was starting to take over the role of reporting news, a job Jess had initially claimed for herself. She felt like her own segment wasn’t good enough anymore once LoRosa began to make her mark in a similar role.
Charlamagne tried to calm things down, telling Jess to “stop listening to the internet” and not let people “trick you out [of] your position.” But Jess didn’t back down.
DJ Envy also chimed in, asking, “If you had an issue, a problem, a situation or something that you felt, why you ain’t bring it to the team?” He continued, “We have your back! … You are great at what you do.”
Later, LoRosa joined the discussion, attempting to hash things out with Jess. She expressed feeling disrespected after Jess had told her to “shut up” and “hush” on air.
Jess didn’t hold back, admitting that she had said those things but explained that it was because LoRosa was “overtalking” her.
“I have said ‘hush,’ ‘shut up,’ but yo you overtalk, and like I said, I’m not about to be up here fighting for no mic. If I already got the job like, what am I doing? It’s four voices, three of us are very opinionated. Me, you, and Charlamagne. I’m not saying Envy don’t got no opinion, but he don’t jump in every single time there’s dead air. You overtalk.”
LoRosa said she was “so thrown off” by parts of Jess’ Instagram Live session but was still open to resolving things.
Jess, holding back tears, responded, “It’s not about them. It’s about how I’m feeling, too. The way that I do things, when it comes to my job and my career, that’s not what we on, and I told you from the jump I was never gonna give that to you….Regardless you don’t got to love me, you don’t have to like me, but we’re here together. I’m here… We gotta figure this out.”
The conversation showed the deep tension between the co-host, but it also highlighted their desire to work things through, even if the path to resolution wasn’t immediately clear.
