Actor Jesse Williams is asking a judge to decrease his child support payments now that he no longer stars on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The 40-year-old actor currently pays his ex-wife, Aryn Drake-Lee, $40,000 a month for their two children. When the child support went into effect on October 1st, 2019, Williams said he could afford the payments since he was still on the show. Now, Williams says he is only making a mere $1,668 per week.

“I am requesting the Court reduce the child support to a reasonable amount I can afford given the significant reduction in my income and the now fluctuating nature of my income,” Williams wrote in his court docs.

Williams exited “Grey’s” in May 2021. He spent 12 seasons on the hit medical drama series and now stars in the Broadway revival of Richard Greenberg’s play “Take Me Out.” Though it doesn’t appear that there was any bad blood between Williams and the show, he wanted to branch out and expand his acting roles.

Williams also maintained that the support change wouldn’t affect his children since the family always lived a “modest lifestyle.”

He also explained that he departed his role as Dr. Jackson Avery because it “marked over 95% of my acting reputation, and it was imperative to expand my body of work before it became too late.”

A judge has not yet made a decision about reducing Williams support payments.
