The pioneering Hip Hop/R&B group was formed in Staten Island, New York, in 1981. They created six timeless studio albums, with the last one released in 2000. With their New Jack-R&B sound, the group landed a deal with Tommy Boy records early in their career.
Fans and family members took to social media to express their condolences and share memories of the musicians’ passing memories.
“My uncle Jessie Daniels was one of a kind… I am so crushed right now,” wrote one of Daniel’s family members on Facebook.
Hip Hop historian and Root drummer, Questlove, paid tribute to the singer on Instagram on Wednesday, writing: “Another legend enters his phase of musical ancestor. Rest eternally to #Jessie D of the #ForceMCs/#ForceMDs.”
Daniel’s was 58-years-old and is the fifth member to pass away from the group.
Charle’s “Mercury” Nelson died in 1995 from a heart attack. Antoine “TCD” Lundy died of Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1998, while Trisco Pearson died of cancer in 2016.
Their songs will forever be timeless hits, and Jessie’s spirit will live on forever.
