Jessie J is letting know that she’s been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
In a heartfelt Instagram video shared on Tuesday, the British singer got vulnerable about her recent health scare. She admitted that she’d been debating whether to go public, but ultimately decided she couldn’t keep it to herself.
“I’m a sharer. I always have been,” she said. “Before No Secrets dropped, I found out I had early breast cancer.”
She made sure to emphasize the word “early,” reminding viewers that while any form of cancer is tough, catching it at an early stage gives her hope.
Over the past few months, Jessie has been undergoing a series of medical tests, all while continuing to push through with her music and public appearances. But she said staying quiet wasn’t helping her process what’s going on. “I don’t think I’ve spoken about it enough. Maybe because I’ve been working nonstop. Maybe because I wasn’t ready.”
Now that she is, she’s using her voice to connect with her fans and in typical Jessie fashion, she’s adding humor where she can. “I get to keep my nipples,” she joked, before adding with a smirk, “It’s a dramatic way to get a boob job.”
She also let fans know she’ll be stepping away briefly after the Summertime Ball to undergo surgery. “I’ll disappear for a little while, but I’ll be back with some new titties and more music,” she teased.
In her caption, Jessie kept it both playful but honest.
“No more Secrets. Is it too soon for a remix called ‘Living My Breast Life’? This last couple of months have been amazing on the outside, but behind the scenes, this diagnosis gave me a whole new perspective. Your girl could really use a hug right now. And no, I’m not really getting massive titties or am I?”
Jessie’s not letting cancer silence her, she’s showing up as her full self, boobs jokes and all.
