Considering all the security at the airport, it was only a matter of time before the Jet Blue flight attendant, who ditched nearly 70 lbs of cocaine and a pair of Gucci heels, would be found.
32 year old former Jamaican beauty queen, Marsha Gay Reynolds, turned herself over to authorities in New York. She has been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute in a federal criminal complaint.
As you may recall, on Friday Reynolds, who was attempting to make her New York bound flight from LAX, became visibly nervous when she was chosen for a random security screening. Reports say that as she was being escorted, she made a phone call in a “foreign language,” before dropping her roller bags, ditching her designer shoes and running down an upward escalator. In her luggage authorities found 11 bricks of cocaine wrapped in green plastic, clothing, a package of condoms and $5.38 in cash. The ironic part in all of this is that Reynolds also ran track while attending NYU in 2004.
The following day Reynolds was able to hop aboard a Jet Blue flight back to the East Coast. She chose to turn herself in, though it wouldn’t have been long before she was caught since TSA scanned her identification before she took off on Friday.
The American Alliance of Airport Police Officers believes this is proof that even flight attendants need to undergo proper security measures.
Screening all employees is feasible since other major airports are already doing it,” said Marshall McClain, president of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association. “We cannot wait for an employee to bring aboard or plant something nefarious on a place before we take action.”
