JetBlue Airlines has banned a passenger who flew from New York to Florida while awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test and then notified the crew after the plane landed of his positive results.
According to CNN, the passenger told the crew- upon arrival, that he’d been notified the test was positive. In turn, cleaning crews immediately headed for the areas he went through based on security camera footage, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said. The areas included gates, security checkpoints, check-in counters and kiosks, elevators, and restrooms.
Officials didn’t clarify how or when the passenger was notified. Still, the CDC has asked that people who are not feeling well to avoid travel until they have clearance from a medical professional, especially those who believe they have coronavirus and those who are awaiting results. In the meantime, the passenger’s current condition and where he’s being held for quarantine is unclear.
“Last night’s event put our crewmembers, customers, and federal and local officials in an unsettling situation that could have easily been avoided, and as such, this customer will not be permitted to fly on JetBlue in the future,” the airline said in a statement today.
