This is one of the few non-celebrity related stories that continues to intrigue me. Someone should make it into a movie.
Marsha Gay Reynolds, the 31 year old JetBlue flight attendant who unloaded 70 lbs ($3 million worth) of cocaine and her Gucci heels to avoid being caught in LAX, is currently jailed in New York where she will remain until she can be transported back to California. She is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on April 7.
Originally Judge Viktor Pohorelsky of Brooklyn granted Reynolds $500,000 bail but decided to stay the ruling pending California’s decision on what to do with her. It was California federal Judge Andre Birotte Jr who ordered that Reynolds remain in custody.
“The defendant is ordered to remain in custody and await transport by the United States Marshal to the Central District of California,” Birotte ruled.
A family represented attempted to represent Reynolds outside of court, referring to her as a hard working nursing student/flight attendant who has previously had no run in’s with the law. However Brooklyn authorities imply that isn’t the case. In court Thursday, without elaborating, they implied there were prior occasions in which Reynolds transported cocaine.
To transport 70lbs in a carry-on luggage, it would be of my assumption that this wasn’t her first time either.
