Over a year following the actual incident, the NFL has decided to officially suspend Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa without pay for his involvement in a domestic dispute that took place August 2014.
Enunwa was arrested on charges of domestic violence simple assault against his girlfriend after getting in a fight with her in a New Jersey hotel room. According to the criminal complaint, he was accused of “grabbing the victim by her ankle and pulling her off a bed and causing her to strike and injure both her head and finger.” The two parties ended up reaching an agreement and the case was eventually dismissed a couple of months later.
Even though the case didn’t go to trial, the NFL still wanted to do a review of their own and as a result, they decided to suspend the second-year receiver for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The original suspension was for six games, but due to cooperation on Enunwa’s end and being that it was his first offense, the NFL decided to bring it down to four games.
“We support and respect the NFL’s decision to suspend Quincy Enunwa,” the Jets said in a statement. “The New York Jets share the NFL’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness of the frequency and impact of domestic and relationship violence, supporting survivors, and encouraging others to speak out and seek help.”
Enunwa will return to the team in their Week 11 game against the Texans.
