Jim Jones is setting the record straight after a viral video comparing him to Nas stirred the rap community. During the latest episode of Fat Joe and Jadakiss’ podcast, the Dipset star reacted to a 22-year-old fan’s bold claim on the “Don’t Quote Me” show, where the fan suggested Capo drew more inspiration from Nas than anyone else, despite the seismic impact of “Illmatic.”

Jones didn’t hold back: “I was a superior Nas fan, but when you get into the game, you realize your idols become rivals,” he admitted. “Not to take anything away from that. I developed my own style and my own lane that these kids started to gravitate towards, the same way I gravitated towards Nas when I was younger.”
But props weren’t enough for Jadakiss, who pressed Jones on Nas’s influence. Jim responded sharply: “My son can’t tell me one Nas record. There must be some type of misconception when it comes to Jim Jones and what Jim Jones has done in this game. A lot of these rappers have done a tremendous job. And I take nothing away from them. But they forget, I got a hell of a catalog. Gold records, platinum records. … Check my track record. Then check everybody else track record.”
He stressed that he doesn’t want to diminish other artists’ accomplishments, but feels comparisons like these are misplaced: “I been putting on. If you want to go to the Billboard entries, pull up Nas’ Billboard entries and pull up my Billboard entries.”
And the stats back him up: while Jim Jones has earned two Hot 100 entries—one in the Top 10—and three Billboard 200 album placements, Nas boasts 27 Hot 100 hits (including two Top 10s) and 27 Billboard 200 albums, sixteen of which reached the Top 10 and six hit No. 1.
