Joe Biden says the Covid-19 vaccine will not be mandatory.
For those who are skeptical or just don’t want to get the coronavirus vaccine, President-elect Joe Biden says Americans won’t be forced to do so. The U.S. currently has more than 225,000 new cases, 14.3 million confirmed cases, and more than 278,000 deaths. BBC reports that the CDC stated that the U.S. has “entered a phase of high-level transmission” of the virus.
Despite those facts, people still refuse to social distance wear masks. As Biden comes to take his seat as the 46th president come January 20, he has sent out his plan for the Covid-19 vaccine, still highlighting the importance of curving the spread of the disease. Biden is still urging Americans to continue wearing masks for 100 days, along with getting vaccinated. He says both measures will have deaths “drop off the edge.” “My hope is they will then be inclined to say it’s worth the patriotic duty to go ahead and protect other people,” Biden said.
The vaccine, which is slated as being 95 percent effective in clinical trials, has been submitted to the Food and Drug Administration to distribute in the U.S.
For now, the CDC says the country is in a phase of “high-level” due to colder temperatures arriving with the changing seasons. Avoiding large gatherings, wearing a mask, and social distancing were key plays in a “multi-pronged” approach needed to “provide a bridge” for future vaccines to be created so that Americans can go back to regular life.
