Joe Biden Urges Congress To Pass Stonger Gun Control Laws

Joe Biden wants tighter gun laws following the mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado.

According to NBC News, Biden called on Congress this Thursday to tighten gun control laws after a mass shooter killed 10 people in a Boulder, Colorado grocery store. This incident occurred less than a week after a domestic terrorist killed eight people in Atlanta, Georgia.

Before Biden took off on a trip to Columbus, Ohio, he warned that his next move as president could be an executive action against gun violence. “As president, I’m going to use all the resources at my disposal to keep people safe,” he said. Biden said he wants a ban on assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines.

“I got that done when I was a senator. It passed. It was a law for the longest time, and it brought down these mass killings. We should do it again,” he said. “We can close loopholes in our background check system, close the Charleston loophole. That’s one of the best tools we have right now to prevent gun violence.”

In his message, Biden also celebrated Officer Eric Talley’s bravery; he was killed in the Boulder shooting. “He thought he would be coming home to his family and seven children, but when the moment came, Officer Talley did not hesitate in his duty, making the ultimately sacrifice to save lives; that’s the definition of an American hero.”

Biden added that this issue is not a “partisan issue” but “an American issue.” The House of Representatives recently approved two bills that Biden says the Senate should “immediately pass.” The bills would update background check laws.
