Controversial podcaster Joe Rogan has struck a nerve with the Black community after giving his take on what classifies as Blackness.
During a recent sit-down with conservative Jordan Peterson, the two touched on how it was “strange” to label African-Americans as “Black” even if they are lighter-skinned. He believes that the word “Black” should only be reserved for individuals from the “darkest place” in African countries who are “not wearing clothes all day” that have developed melanin to protect their skin.
“Even the term Black is weird, and when you use it for people that are literally my color, it becomes very strange,” he added.
The discussion initially arose when the two men began speaking about Michael Eric Dyson, a Black sociology professor at Georgetown University. Dyson previously called Peterson a “mean, mad white man.” Peterson said that Dyson was “actually not Black” but was “brown” instead.

Naturally, social media dragged Joe Rogan, his guest, and his podcast as a whole. However, it does not appear that Spotify is ready to rid its app of the racially triggering yet widely popular show. Just days ago, singer Neil Young gave the streaming platform an ultimatum: his music or Rogan’s podcast. Spotify chose Rogan and promptly deleted Young’s catalog from their app. Young’s stance comes amid Rogan continuously spreading misinformation on his podcast about COVID-19.
