Newly signed Sixers rookie center Joel Embiid has been hit with some very devastating news.
I immediately took interest in Joel Embiid’s story while reading the NBA draft issue of ESPN magazine a few months back. The young Cameroonian 7-footer didn’t know a thing about basketball before coming to America and working really hard to be one of the best amongst his University of Kansas teammates and became the #3 pick in the draft. It’s unfortunate that his younger brother Arthur Embiid died in Africa before getting to see him suit up for his first official NBA season.
Details as to his cause of death have not been released as of yet. Sixers coach Brett Brown, general manager Sam Hinkie and forward Luc Mbah a Moute took time away from today’s scrimmage to be with a devastated Embiid in Philadelphia.
“We’re all a family here,” Iske said. “Obviously, everybody’s thinking about Joel and his family at this time. Our hearts and prayers are with him.”
Our prayers are with him as well.
