The family of late Good Times star John Amos remains embroiled in a public dispute following his death earlier this year. On Christmas Day, Shannon Amos, John’s daughter, announced that she has hired legal counsel to investigate her father’s August 2024 passing, alleging elder abuse by her brother, K.C. Amos.
Through her lawyer, James H. Davis III, Shannon is seeking answers regarding her father’s admission to Centinela Hospital and his condition at the time of his death. Davis stated that Shannon’s investigation stems from concerns about her father’s care and potential wrongdoing. She claims someone misrepresented themselves as John’s daughter to hospital staff, raising further questions about his final days.
In response, K.C. Amos has strongly denied the allegations, stating that his father passed away naturally from congestive heart failure at the age of 84. Speaking to PEOPLE, K.C. said, “There has been no physical, financial, emotional, psychological elder abuse or neglect committed against my father by me, Gene Brummett, or Belinda Foster.” He emphasized that this conclusion has been supported by investigations conducted by Homeland Security Services, Inc., Adult Protective Services, and law enforcement.
K.C. revealed that his father chose Centinela Hospital because of his trust in its staff and requested that no other family members be contacted during his admission. “I honored his request,” K.C. stated, adding that John spent his final days writing, producing, and praying with him and their team.
Kevin Faler, Vice President of Operations at Homeland Security Services, Inc., echoed K.C.’s defense. Faler said his two-year investigation into allegations of criminal and civil wrongdoing uncovered no evidence of elder abuse. He also highlighted the trail of stolen money and belongings valued in the millions, an issue K.C. has reportedly been working to resolve.
Faler refuted Shannon’s claims, calling them “frivolous” and emphasizing John Amos’ close bond with K.C. and publicist Belinda Foster, whom John reportedly regarded as “more of a daughter to him than his own biological daughter.”
Shannon has made several accusations against her family in recent years, including filing complaints of elder abuse to Adult Protective Services in Los Angeles. These claims were dismissed due to lack of evidence, and John himself denied the allegations before his passing.
In June 2023, John appeared in a video from his hospital bed accusing Shannon of financial elder abuse, saying she had “taken advantage” of him. Despite the family tensions, John expressed hope in late 2023 that the family could reconcile, saying, “I love [Shannon]. K.C. loves his sister… everything heals in time, and the love is still there.”
