John Legend and “Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson are getting together to remake the Christmas hit, “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”
After many, including those in the #MeToo movement, found issues, citing suggestive lyrics that promote date rape, Legend decided to record an updated version, which will now include consent lyrics.
Legend sat down with Vanity Fair, where he talked about giving the song a modern spin. According to the publication, Legend worked with “Insecure” actress Natasha Rothwell to rework the questionable lyric, which he later recorded with Clarkson.
“What will my friends think…” Clarkson sings in the corrected version.
Legend responds, “I think they should rejoice.”
“…if I have one more drink?” Clarkson continues.
In which Legend declares, “It’s your body, and your choice.”
According to CBS News, the changes to “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” arrives nearly a year after the holiday classic was pulled from various radio stations across the country. Critics of the tune say the lyrics suggest the series of events were not fully consented by the female singer.
