According to multiple reports, John McCain’s 2008 presidential running mate, Sarah Palin has reportedly not been invited to his funeral and memorial services.
Sources close to the McCain family tell People that “Invitations were not extended” to Palin and Trump, as well as “several longtime McCain staffers” who was also removed from the invite list.
“My guess is, it came from Cindy,” a source close to the McCain family tells People. “She is very protective of John’s memory and legacy. She’s also a grieving widow. I think she wants to get through this as best she can.”
Following McCain’s passing on August 25 from brain cancer, Palin tweeted about how much the Arizona Senator inspired others to serve for something “greater than self.”
“Today we lost an American original. Sen. John McCain was a maverick and a fighter, never afraid to stand for his beliefs,” Palin tweeted. “John never took the easy path in life – and through sacrifice and suffering he inspired others to serve something greater than self.”
According to CBS News, McCain requested Barack Obama and George W. Bush to deliver the eulogy at his funeral at Washington’s National Cathedral on Sept. 1.
