Stevie Wonder Beat Johnny Gill in Air Hockey, Now He’s Sure the Legend Can See [Video]

Singer Johnny Gill has a hilarious story about Stevie Wonder and why he believes the icon may be able to see.

While appearing on Shawn Stockman’s podcast “On That Note,” Gill took a walk down memory lane and recalled a surprising moment that left him and his R&B peers shaken. According to Gill, he, Gerald Levert, and Keith Sweat once got defeated by Wonder in a game of air hockey.

“Why did this guy beat all three of us, whipped our a** in air hockey? I’ll never forget. Steve was the master of air hockey,” Gill told a stunned Stockman. “And I said, ‘I don’t care what you say, motherf**ker, you can see.’”

Gill and Sweat were so thrown off by the loss, he said, they jokingly vowed never to publicly admit that a blind man beat them at such a fast-paced, visual game. Though he didn’t say when the game took place, the timing likely falls during the LSG days, when the trio performed as the R&B supergroup behind hits like “My Body.”

Wonder has yet to respond, but he’s heard this type of speculation before. In fact, back in 2019, Shaquille O’Neal shared his own run-in with Wonder that had him questioning reality. Shaq said he once got in an elevator and was stunned when Wonder not only turned to greet him but also pressed the correct floor and exited on the right level, solo.

“I went and called every person I knew and told them this story. And they believed me,” Shaq said on “Inside the NBA” at the time.
