Johnny Manziel Says He’s Been Diagnosed With Bipolar Disorder And Is Working On A Comeback: “I Don’t Know What Kind of Comeback it Will Be, But I Know I Want To Get Back on a Football Field”

Johnny Manziel, better known as Johnny Football, Money Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner or the 2014 NFL bust, is now looking to make a comeback.

After struggling with his consistency in his two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Manziel’s personal issues led him to a downward spiral driven by “self-medication.” From alcohol abuse to a slew of legal issues, Manziel continued to be the fighting force that held himself back.

But, according to ESPN, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder “about a year ago,” he put an end to his way of “self-medicating” with alcohol to battle his depression and is now taking the proper medication and is ready to come back to the league.

In a recent interview with “Good Morning America,” Manziel discussed his new mindset and shared his goal to get back to the football field.

“I am watching all the other guys doing what I want to be doing and I am sitting on a couch being a loser,” Manziel said. “At the end of the day I can’t help that my wires are a little bit differently crossed than yours, I can’t help my mental makeup of the way that I was created. But I know if I stay on these meds and I continue to do what I am doing right now….I think my dad, my mom, I think [girlfriend Are Tiesi], would all agree that they see a drastic change.”

However, Manziel acknowledged that he was the author of his own fate in allowing the darkness of his depression to consume him.

“You are left staring at the ceiling by yourself and in that depression and back in that dark hole of sitting in a room by yourself, super depressed, thinking about all the mistakes you made in your life,” he said. “What did that get me? Where did that get me except out of the NFL? Where did that get me? Disgraced.”

But now, with a clear state of mind, he is ready to prove to an NFL team that he is ready for a second chance.

“I don’t know what kind of comeback it will be,” he added, “but I know I want to get back on a football field to what brought me so much joy in my life and it makes me happy doing as my job.”
