Ever since getting drafted to the NFL a few years ago, Johnny Manziel’s downward spiral has been publicly displayed for all to witness. Manziel quickly transformed from a Heisman Trophy winner and first round draft pick, to one of the NFL’s bad boys, known for his wild partying and immature behavior on and off the field. As time passed, things took a drastic turn for the worse. Among other things, he became addicted to drugs and alcohol and had to go to rehab, and he got in trouble with the law after his ex-girlfriend alleged that he assaulted her. Finally, after two years of putting up with Manziel’s mess, the Browns cut ties with him this past March.
The former quarterback has been unemployed ever since and has been frequently spotted in Vegas, L.A., and Miami drinking, doing drugs, and getting into trouble. Just last weekend, he made headlines after getting in a fight at a Vegas nightclub and being kicked out.
Manziel’s friends and family spoke with TMZ recently, saying that they’re afraid he’s going to die. “He’s in a horrible downward spiral,” one source said. His friends say they want to help but when they tried to sit him down and talk to him, Manziel “flipped out and would not hear it”. “If he continues this way for much longer he will die,” another source tells TMZ. Manziel’s father also worries about his son, saying that if he doesn’t get help soon, “he won’t live to see his 24th birthday.”
Manziel is clearly not in good shape and his family and friends have plenty of reason to worry. It’s always sad to see a person, especially someone so young who had so much potential, spiral out of control and we hope he gets the help he needs.
