Medical device company Johnson & Johnson said it has a Covid-19 vaccine that is 85 percent effective against the sometimes fatal virus.
We’re almost as tired of hearing about Covid-19 as we were about 45. The latest news about Rona comes from Johnson & Johnson, which just announced its coronavirus vaccine. The company says its single shot was 66 percent effective in a global Phase 3 trial but is 85 percent effective against the virus. The vaccine was 72 percent effective against moderate and severe infection in the U.S., the company said, according to CNN.
There are now three Covid-19 vaccines that claim to prevent and or protect against the virus. Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna created the two others. Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna are about 95 percent effective overall against symptomatic Covid-19, and they could be highly effective against more severe cases. Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine will also help curve the spread of the disease, experts say, including lead Covid-19 health specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci.
“If we can alleviate that, that is really important — not only with this candidate, but the others that have already gotten the EUA,” Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during a call with reporters on Friday. “If you can prevent severe disease in a high percentage of individuals, that will alleviate so much of the stress and human suffering and death.”
